Local Event Wednesday, August 4th - Saginaw Meet & Greet   7:00 - 9:00 pm. An informal gathering for the Tri-Cities' GLBT community. All are welcome. Meet your old friends and make some new ones. Enjoy hot and cold drinks in a non-smoking environment. Magic Bean Café, 5789 State Street, Saginaw.

Perceptions Event Wednesday, August 11th - Freeland Meet & Greet   7:00 to 9:00 pm. Riverside Restaurant, 8295 Midland Road (M-47), Freeland. Private room. Famous homemade pies. This event will repeat on the second Wednesday of each month.

Michigan Event Saturday, August 14th - TransGender Michigan Pride in the Park   Noon to 6:00 pm. Celebrate Transgender Pride with a picnic. Hot dogs, burgers, chips, and soft drinks are provided. Perceptions Event Saturday, August 14th - Doug's Picnic   6:00 pm. Douglas Solosky invites all Perceptions members and friends to his annual picnic & party at 3004 S. Poseyville Rd. (at the corner of Freeland Rd.), Midland. Doug will supply brats, hot dogs, hamburgs, all the fixings, and soft drinks. Please bring a dish to pass and your smiling faces. BYOB if desired.

This gathering is intended as a discussion and informal support group for gay and bisexual men. The group will be facilitated by Thomas Brubaker. You may bring your own beverage into the library as long as the container has a cover or cap.

This women's group is designed as a safe place for Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender women, who are out or not, to come for support and socialization. Perceptions Event Saturday, August 21st - Perceptions Summer Picnic   1:00 pm. Haithco Recreation Area, 2121 Schust Rd., Saginaw. Admission to the park if $5 per car load or $1 for bikes and walk ins.

PFLAG Event Sunday, August 22nd - PFLAG Meeting   2:00 - 4:30 pm. Guest speaker Ash Christians will discuss bullying in schools. The meeting takes place at the Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2525 Hemmiter Rd., Saginaw.

Local eventWednesday, August 25th - Open Hearts  6:30 pm. Positive-thinking group for members of the GLBT community who are disabled or anyone having issues they are dealing with. Facilitated by Rev. Local eventFriday, August 27th - Bullying Workshop   "Addressing and Preventing Bullying: Effective School Based Strategies" will be presented at the Saginaw ISD Transitions Center, 3860 Fashion Square Blvd, Saginaw. 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Rus Funk, a nationally recognized speaker, will address bullying in schools. His focus is on developing skills for people, groups, and communities in advocacy, education, mobilization and organizing. This training will provide concrete examples, skills, and strategies for effectively working to respond to reduce the incidence of bullying in schools.
  Fee: $10. Lunch included.

AIDS AwarenessSaturday, August 28th - Las Vegas Night   7:00 to 10:00 pm. The Magic Bean Café, 5789 State Street, Saginaw, will host Las Vegas Night II to support AIDS Walk Bay City/Midland/Saginaw. Your $20 ticket includes hors d'oeuvres, gaming chips, and a raffle entry. Cash bar, silent auction and raffle prizes will also be available. AIDS AwarenessSaturday, September 25th - AIDS Walk Bay City Midland Saginaw   The Tri-Cities' sixth annual AIDS Walk will be held in downtown Bay City in Wenonah Park. 9:30 am Registration, 10:30 am Rally, 11:00  Walk. AIDS Walk supports the AIDS Care Program at Sacred Heart Rehabilition Center, providing care case management as well as free HIV testing and prevention education at several sites in the Great Lakes Bay Region. National EventThursday, November 18th - Gay American Smoke Out   The Gay American Smoke Out is an opportunity for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) individuals to challenge themselves to quit smoking. The Gay American Smoke Out was first introduced in 1994 by the Billy DeFrank Lesbian and Gay Community Center. Typically held on the 3rd Thursday in November, The "Gay American Smoke Out" was created to coincide with the American Cancer Society's "Great American Smokeout."

National EventSaturday, November 20th - Transgender Day of Remembrance   2010 marks the 12th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. The day was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The Day of Remembrance is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder in 1998 kicked off the "Remembering Our Dead" web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999.

Saginaw Meet & Greet - 1st Wednesday of every month. Magic Bean Cafe, 5789 State Street, Saginaw. 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Freeland Meet & Greet - 2nd Wednesday of every month. Riverside Restaurant, 8295 Midland Rd. Private Room. The Riverside is famous for their homemade pies. Winter hours are 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Friday Night Dinner. Join Perceptions members on Friday nights for dinner at a local eatery. Each week we meet at a different restaurant for food, fun and conversation. An email is sent through our Yahoo Group every week to announce the week's venue. Sign up for our email list on Yahoo Groups, email info@PerceptionsSV.org or call 989-891-1429.

The Perceptions Transgender Group meets at 6:00 pm on the last Mondayday of each month Magic Bean Cafe, 5789 State St., Saginaw. The group offers an informal gathering, taking a more 'light-hearted' approach to allow transgenders in the Tri-City area an opportunity to connect with one another for socializing and support.
